There is a fairly lengthy discussion of eXistenZ in the
Spoon Collective Method and Theory archives, esp. at the
beginning of the thread with eXistenZ in the title.  I believe
there are some comments about Matrix too.

For my thoughts, eXistenZ is a perfectly wonderful
postmodern movie - a nice illustration of the psychotic
postmodern attitude regarding the 'Other of the Other' - an
attitude that is nothing more than the radicalization of
paranoia (ie. the world is under the influence of a mysterious
mad god or insane game designer).  See Zizek's Looking Awry
for some provocating notes about paranoia as a form of
psychosis (pgs. 18-20).
