conference on global left-Keynesianism (proposal)
Friends and colleagues,
I am dreaming of a conference on global left-Keynesianism. Is anyone out
there who might be interested in supporting such a project? My own role
could be as an assistant to the project. As I am retired, I could contribute
a fair amount of time for groundwork via email, but cannot supply an
organizational platform. Nevertheless, I believe that the time is ripe for
such a conference.
Background:
Robert A. Blecker (USA) presented a paper, entitled "Global Keynesianism
versus the New Mercantilism: International Economics after Joan Robinson",
at the Joan Robinson Centennial Conference, University of Vermont,
Burlington (USA), October 2003. There he wrote (page 41):
"Robinson's work embodies a global Keynesian vision that may be considered
as an alternative to the current paradigm of neo-liberalism founded upon
free trade theory and faith in automatic adjustment mechanisms to solve
macroeconomic and financial disequilibria."
Moreover, in the 1970s the Journal of Post Keynesian Economics published
articles on Rosa Luxemburg's theory of imperialism. Radical scholars like
Susan George (Paris, France) and Michel Chossudovsky (Ottawa, Canada), to
name but a few, have published ideas that overlap with a global
left-Keynesian mode of analysis.
Would there be any interest in this kind of a conference? If there is a
shortage of global left-Keynesians, Marxist scholars with an interest in
international issues and Noble Prize winners like Sen and Stiglitz and
Lords like Lord Desai should not be stopped at the door. If there are only
three persons interested and one of them has a sailboat, we could present
papers there. Alternatively, we could rent a larger facility and debate
global left-Keynesianism together with a rock concert and a laser show.
Alternatively, the conference could be organized in a place where Cuban
cigars are made.
Yours truly,
Gert
