PLEASE JOIN OR RENEW WITH ICAPE! Dear Colleagues (apologies to multiple recipients!): This is my annual reminder-push for memberships! I have sent this to a variety of folks, your identities driven primarily by who I had in my address book. I’ll also ask Fred Lee to circulate this using his massive heterodox contact list! The nine folks listed below are current in their dues (there’s another check in my mailbox at the office but can’t recall the association off hand–sorry!). If you are an officer of an association interested in renewing or joining (or you are in a position to pester such an individual), details on how to join/renew can be found on our website (www.icape.org) under the menu item, "Joining ICAPE." Payment, which may be as low as $10, should go to "ICAPE." Once you have paid, don’t forget to bring materials for our booth at the ASSA meetings in San Diego (instructions for this are on the ICAPE web page under "Displaying Materials at the ASSA")! *********************************************** CURRENT PAID ASSOCIATES: Association for Evolutionary Economics [Director Level–2 Directors] Conference for Social Economics [Observer Level] Dollars & Sense [Director Level–1 Director] International Network for Economic Method [Director Level–1 Director] Karl Polanyi Institute of Political Economy [Director Level–1 Director] Regional Economic and Social Development [Observer Level] Rethinking Marxism [Director Level–1 Director] Society for the Advancement of Behavioral Economics [Observer Level] U.S. Society for Ecological Economics [Director Level–1 Director] *********************************************** Details regarding our annual board meeting can be found on the ICAPE web page under "Board Meeting." If you haven’t heard, the summer conference was wonderful! For a report, go either to the Post-Autistic Economics Review website (www.paecon.net) and choose "Directors Report on World Conference on the Future of Heterodox Economics" (about half way down) or go to the ICAPE page (www.icape.org) and select "ICAPE Conference Report." We are already working on a location for the 2006 meeting! Thanks very much! John P.S. For your information, my July renewal mailing to associate officers is reproduced below. It also signals the advent of a new stage in our development, one in which our core activities shift from passive to active. While we will of course continue to provide such services as the cooperative booth at the Allied Social Sciences Association (ASSA) meetings, the web page (www.icape.org), the annual newsletter (available either on the web page or at the booth), and the online and print summary of ICAPE associates’ ASSA conference programs, we are now ready to take on more ambitious projects like this summer’s international conference. The latter was a great success (thanks again to the Economics Department at the University of Missouri at Kansas City for hosting us). Attendance was excellent, the plenaries were insightful and inspiring, and the atmosphere was extremely friendly. For the first time, ICAPE became a recognizable community of scholars rather than a collection of e-mail addresses! While I eagerly anticipate our next meeting in 2006, ICAPE needs to work in the meantime to maintain the contacts and enthusiasm generated by our conference. I have already built a bulletin board for us to use in communication (it’s not quite open yet–I’ll post the address and related news on www.icape.org when it’s set to go), and we are discussing several other ideas including regional ICAPE conferences, sponsored sessions, and a web presence for teaching materials. I’ll keep you all up to date! ******END EXCERPTS FROM LETTER****** |
