Part 3 of 3, Re: Minsky's politcal views

Paul,

In reply to Barkley Rosser <rosserjb@xxxxxxx> you write:

" For those who did not live through the great depression --
it may be hard to understand how intriguing an alternative
economic system appeared to the young people growing up
when their hard-working fathers were often unemployed --
or earning so little that they could not pay the rent. I suggest
that those who did not live through those times go to your
local video store and rent a movie called "King of the Hill"
which is a true story of young person growing up in St Louis
in the 1930s -- with its Hoovervilles. [By the way, King of the
Hill has a movie actor in it who won the Academy Award
this year or his portrayal in The Pianist.]

My Father lost his new home in 1932 when his work week
was reduced to three days per week at the General Electric
Company in Lynn Massachusetts. Of course, three days
per week was better than being unemployed. I did not
get into this subject until February of 1969, as noted on
the attached FIG10b, The Life Cycle Characteristic Of
Systems. I have since learned that the late great USSR
collected 92% of its public revenue from indirect taxes
on its capital plant, and only 8% of its public revenue
from direct taxes on personal earned and unearned
income. And Mr. Gorbachev did tell his American
visitors that "the faults of the Russian economy would
be corrected before the Americans corrected the faults
in the US capitalist economy." Mr. Gorbachev is still
on the right side of that question, thanks to the many
Devious Defenders of the Status Quo (DDotSQ) on the
US Internet and in the US Media.

Must I conclude that you still find that "alternative
economic system" so intriguing that you block, on list
<PKT@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx>, all submissions which favor
restoring the US decentralized economy to its 1890s
design condition? Or is there some other reason why
my submissions are never distributed on list "Post
Keynesian Thought?"

Kind regards,

Wes Burt
