Re: Charles Kindleberger
The first edition was 1978. I only have the second edition
(autographed) from 1989 here in my office, but I am quite
certain that he cited Minsky in Chapter 2 of the first edition,
essentially as a foundational source, in particular 1975
_John Maynard Keynes_ by Minsky, 1975 and his 1977
"A Theory of Systematic Fragility," in Altman and Sametz,
eds. _Financial Crises: Institutions and Markets in a
Fragile Environment_. The second edition also cites
"The Financial Instability Hypothesis: Capitalistic Production
Process and the Behavior of the Economy," in Kindleberger
and Laffargue, eds., 1982, Cambridge University Press, which
was probably not cited in the first edition. Kindleberger
also notes that in the 1977 volume Allen Sinai discusses
Minsky's earlier writings on the subject.
BTW, speaking of Minsky, I recently heard an older
somewhat conventional and conservative economist claim,
after a few drinks, that Minsky was long a member of the
CPUSA. This individual went on at some length regarding
the alleged irony of a "card-carrying Communist" making
lots of money advising major New York banks. Anybody
sufficiently knowledgeable to either confirm or deny this
particular rumor?

What was the first edition of "Manias", 1978? I wonder if Minsky was
cited in the first edition or only in the subsequent ones?

Not only anticipated but drew on heavily as well.
Minsky's arguments are central to _Manias, Panics,
and Crashes, and Minsky is duly cited there.

Yes, certainly one of the greats, no doubt, and anticipating some very
Minskian insights. At the Heilbroner 'retirement' at the New School,
the first day's panel was Kindleberger, Tobin, Samuelson, John Kenneth
Galbraith (w/ Eatwell moderating). Kindleberger and JKG were by far the
best presentations. Mat
