Dear Bill,
You may wish to check two books by Allan Gruchy, whose titles are, if my
memory serves me well, Contemporary Economic Thought (1972) and The
Reconstruction of Economics (1987). Also Mitchell's book Types of Economic
Theory. More recently, Malcolm Rutherford's Institutions in Economics, on
Old and New IE, as well as Geoff Hodgsons' How Economics Forgot History.
