History of Taxation
You might want to check out Gina Luzzatto, An Economic History of Italy

century).

>Hello PKers,
Is there any good treatise out there dealing with the early history of
taxation, esp. relating to the period around the 12th-13th C. Europe or
even
a little bit earlier (pre-parliaments/estates-general)? I'm looking not
only for the sheer "facts", but also a review of the original economic and
esp. juridical grounds surrounding their introduction (and I don't mean
Adam
Smith, Blackstone and later "conjectural" writers, but a more "proper"
historical treatment). Perhaps Randy or Matt might have a citation on top
of
their heads?
