I reread the spam and it struck me that one thing the Chinese don't have is
western marketing technology, the things we see everyday. By these
standards, whoever wrote the spam would get fired. Who is Prof. Huming Tong
anyway? Lucky for them, I thought. It won't make the Chinese into
materialistic, consuming machines. But, then again, there's Shanghai.

Seriously though, at $0.39, it makes one wonder whether this firm is making
money or whether its raw materials and capital are subsidized or are costed
way below world market prices. I wouldn't be surprised if this shotgun ad
proves to be evidence of variable cost plus markup pricing. (This is to say
that the firm is run by some MBA's who are desperate, Pepsi buys from them
because it's dirt cheap as the product is not priced using full cost and
there is a good chance that the bottom line will turn out negative.) I
wonder if this company is leveraged. Time will tell.

But look at the price.  These watches will retail in the US for $40.
with more than 100 times marke up.  Every watch sold in the US adds $40
to the US GDP and 39cents to the Chinese GDP.  Of the 39 cents, 25 cents
will go to return on foreign capital. and less than 5 cents to Chinese
labor.
