Re: The conflict at Notre Dame
My dear Barkley, mea culpa!
I know sarcasm does not transmit well over the Internet but I couldn't resist.
All I can present in my defense is the emoticon appended at the end of my post.
For the record, I do not condone the creation of new departments solely for the
purpose of rounding up and neutralizing faculty who dissent from mainstream
opinion. Furthermore, I think it's appalling that a university would sacrifice
intellectual diversity and academic freedom for the sake of a better ranking,
whose informational value at the low ends of the scale is dubious, at best.
Thanks for giving me an opportunity to clarify.
