Re: Measure of technological change
Kauhiro,
T. K. Rhymes in Canada, has engaged in a number of strudies of technological
change using Pasinetti's approach. I don't have a current reference but you
could look them up using EconLit. I think one article was published in the
Canadian Journal of Economics.
Cheers,
James

Subject: Measure of technological change
The most general measure of technological chnage is regareded as that
elaborated by Solow in 1957. In other words, it is the measure called
growth accoounting now. But few economists pay attention to the criticism
against it by Pasinetti in 1959. It was the paper entitled "On Concept and
Measures of Change in Productivity", which was published on the REVEIW OF
ECONOMICS AND STATISTICS, VOL. 41, Issue 3, pp. 270 -286. Pasinetti showed
the measure which doesn't depend upon the assumption of
"well-behaved"production function. I think it very unfortunate to have been
neglected the Pasinetti's measure to estimate technological chnage, in
spite of the fact that the growth accounting isn't so appropriate measure.
I have never heard any empirical studies on technological change by means
of Pasinetti' measure. Are there anyone who has heard or done empirical
studies by means of the measure?
