John Kenneth Galbraith was saying a variation of
this (the irrelevancy of mainstream economic theory) 40 years ago. At that
time the culprit was Samuelson's mathematics. This time it is the conquest
of corporate sponsored "conservatism" led by Friedman and his Chicago
School.
