LAST ROUND: ICAPE Renewals

I PROMISE THIS IS THE LAST ROUND OF THIS NOTE!!!

THINGS ARE LOOKING MUCH BETTER SINCE MY FIRST REMINDER--THANKS TO ALL!  ALSO, IF IT WOULD BE MORE CONVENIENT FOR YOUR GROUP TO PAY AT THE BOOTH AT THE ASSA MEETINGS, THEN WE STAND READY TO ACCOMODATE!  AND IF YOUR ASSOCIATION IS NOT YET A MEMBER, THEN YOU ARE MORE THAN WELCOME TO JOIN.

LIST OF THOSE IN GOOD STANDING HAS BEEN UPDATED AND INCLUDES TWO PROMISES TO PAY.

THANKS!

JOHN

P.S. BE SURE TO HAVE YOUR GROUP BRING MATERIALS THAT THEY WOULD LIKE DISPLAYED AT THE BOOTH.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Dear Colleagues (apologies to multiple recipients!):

This is my annual 1st (NOW 3RD!) reminder-push for memberships! I have sent this to a variety of folks, your identities driven primarily by who I had in my address book (most of you, however, hold a position of responsibility in a current or former ICAPE associate).

Though we have around forty members listed on our site (www.icape.org), only the six (NOW THIRTEEN) below are actually current in their dues. Our annual costs run around $1000 (including our booth at the ASSA meetings). At this rate, we will be witness to the first deficit in our history. This is especially problematic given that I had planned to ask the Board to earmark some of our funds to help finance our first conference this summer. Hence, I would be forever grateful if your group (one of which you are a member or an officer) could help out! Details on how to join/renew can be found on our website ( under the menu item, "Joining ICAPE." Payment, which may be as low as $10, should go to "ICAPE." Bless you!

Speaking of the conference, the response has been outstanding (the number of proposals is well above what we expected) and we will have a full slate of sessions with papers from around the world and various paradigmatic viewpoints. Please see our website for a copy of the call for papers (which is now closed?but you can see the conference details). This represents a very exciting step forward for our group! Details regarding the final program will be posted soon.

Thanks very much!

John

P.S. For your information, my late-June renewal mailing to associate officers is reproduced below.

******START EXCERPTS FROM LETTER******

ICAPE continues to expand the level of services it provides. While our most visible activity is the cooperative booth we sponsor at the Allied Social Sciences Association (ASSA) meetings, we also maintain a web page (including information on each of our associates?this year we moved the site to www.icape.org), publish an annual newsletter (available either on the web page or at the booth), and send letters of inquiry to American Economics Association officer candidates. Furthermore, we have been maintaining contact with the principals in the recent student revolts in France and England. And, at the 2003 ASSA meetings we will offer a new service: an online and print summary of ICAPE associates? ASSA conference programs.

But while all the above are necessary to maintain the links among the various associations around the world embracing pluralistic ideals, it is our planned conference that really represents a major step forward for ICAPE. Scheduled for 5-7 June, 2003, at the University of Missouri, Kansas City, we hope it will mark the beginning of a new era for ICAPE and our associates. That it coincides with the tenth anniversary of ICAPE?s founding adds to its significance.
