Dear Colleagues, Below and in the attached document is a call for papers for the International Conference of the System Dynamics Society. I have already sent out one e-mail about the Conference. Mike Radzicki has fashioned a call for papers for the Conference that is specifically directed at heterodox economists. Fred Lee Call for Papers, Presentations, Workshops and Sessions Twenty-first International Conference of the System Dynamics Society New York City July 20-24, 2003 Conference Theme: Economic Dynamics Host: Worcester Polytechnic Institute, Worcester, Massachusetts Local Co-hosts: Amber Blocks, Ltd. and Fordham University The 21st International Conference of the System Dynamics Society will be held at the Roosevelt Hotel in New York City. The conference will bring together participants from around the world who are interested in system dynamics in general and/or "economic dynamics" in particular. Papers that examine the symbiotic relationship between system dynamics and hetrodox economics, that critically evaluate system dynamics from a heterodox perspective, or that utilize system dynamics to develop hetrodox economic theory or policy prescriptions are particularly welcome. During the conference, a system dynamics/hetrodox economics "working group" will be formed with a goal of putting on sessions at the URPE/AFEE meetings and helping inform and develop heterodox economic theory and policy analysis. New York is the most exciting city in the world and the Roosevelt Hotel is in the heart of midtown Manhattan. The conference venue is within walking distance of Broadway, Central Park, Grand Central Station, Fifth Avenue shopping, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Empire State Building, Rockefeller Center, St. Patrick's Cathedral, the United Nations Building, and other well-known attractions. We have negotiated a special room rate at the Roosevelt to keep the cost of attending the conference affordable. Deadlines and Key Dates: January 2, 2003: Opening Date for presentation submissions and workshop proposals. February 14, 2003: Submission deadline for early decision. March 20, 2003: Notification of acceptance for early submissions. March 28, 2003: Final submission deadline. May 9, 2003: Final notification of acceptance. July 2, 2003: Hotel room reservation deadline. July 20, 2003: Conference Opening - NYC! The program will include plenary presentations on topics of interest to all, including an update on the system dynamics national economic model. Parallel sessions will be organized by theme and will feature the full range of work being done in the field. Poster sessions will provide an opportunity for participants to engage authors directly on subjects of particular interest. In addition, there will be workshops, tutorials, panel discussions, special interest group sessions, student colloquia, vendor displays, and demonstrations. The conference schedule will provide time for relaxed social and professional interaction. For updated details, please visit http://www.systemdynamics.org and click on "2003 Conference."
