"...the optimistic views of Dr Cumes...

Paul,

Don't you see that even they - the Enron parade - will approve because it
will enable them to live, even though not in the style or with the forms of
behaviour to which they've so unfortunately become accustomed..
That is the whole point of VOW.
It is good for the rich as well as the poor.
It tackles the short-term problem as well as the chronic problem of poverty.
It is not being optimistic - unless you mean it's optimistic to expect
people to understand simple and proven ways of doing themselves a great deal
of good.
You - Paul and John too - have been brainwashed for so long - about thirty
years - that you can't think clearly any more. You can't think through the
thickets of monetarism, the Reagan/Thatcher "invisible hand", the obsession
of central banks with curing everything by raising interest rates, the
Maastricht (and others') obsession with balancing budgets and fear of
government borrowing, and the whole ragtag and bobtail that you've been fed
by the fatuous media and their academic and other confederates for so long.
There was a time, you know, when the United States was funding one of the
most expensive wars it ever fought; it was funding the Cold War around the
world (including through NATO and SEATO); it was easily the world's largest
donor of bilateral and multilateral aid in absolute terms and pretty near if
not at the top in GNP percentage terms as well; it carried through the
biggest civil-rights and social-welfare revolution in its history.
All at the same time.
Oh, yes, I forgot.
It sent a man to the moon too and "brought him back safely to Earth."
Of course, there was hyperinflation, wasn't there?
You remember that, don't you?
When the Fed raised interest rates "to curb inflation" in July 1969,
inflation was threatening to hit about 3%.
Soon afterwards, it hit double figures and, with the Fed's help, kept on
going up...and up...and up.......
That sort of sanity has prevailed now for more than thirty years.
I don't need to tell you what we've got.
I told you already in 1971.

Subject: Funding for VOW
