Henry,
With respect, I think the point of Keynesianism, and I should not speak
for
Paul but I presume this will apply to his reasoning as well, is to
account
for "human nature", whatever that is, and yet somehow find a
way to apply an
economic philosophy and set of policy positions which does humanity
good
_in spite_ of their sometime "natural" inclination to have it
another way.
i.e.: it is not as if Paul would be unaware of this dilemma. In fact it
is
this very dilemma, and its overcoming, which I would think lies at the
heart
of good Keynesian economic reasoning. And in my view, Keynes' way
of
reasoning has been uniquely successful in dealing with this problem of
human
psychology, even if not permanently. The issue to me is more one of
attempting to successfully and permanently combat Machiavellianism. That
to
me _is_ likely impossible. But again, the goal of Post-Keynesianism, and
I
would think one of Paul's goals as well, is to go as far as one can there
as
well.
(Sorry if I'm imputing too much Paul. But I assume I am not.)
Stephen Block
.
Thank you Stephen!
Paul
