Re: Stiglitz on Soros

Warren:

Although I do not have the credentias of an academically trained
economist, I do have the credentials of an academically trained
psychologist so my viewpoint will be from that standpoint.

I heartily laud anyone who searches for ideas and ways to eliminate
poverty and true want and need . Not wishing to dwell on religious
topics, I would point out that the very earliest Christians had a
socialist philosophy that those in want and need who could not, for
health reasons, provide for themselves would be taken care of (not in
the luxuries of life but in the essential necessities to maintain their
existence..I emphasize maintain).

Socialism and the econmics of various forms of communism ( I write of
ONLY the economics of communism and NOT it's abuses) tried
unsuccessfully to address these issues but regrettably failed.

Human nature being what it realistically is quite naturally leads to
those who are physically, emotionally and psychologically able to do so
wanting a larger portion of "the pie" because they not only want this
but are physically, mentally and emotionally able to work to provide a
better life for themselves and loved ones than those who are disabled or
disadvantaged (3rd. world country citizens as one example).

I am a very strong believer in those who are able to work and better
their lives to be able to do so but also believe firmly that the
disadvataged ( through legitimate causes and I emphasize legitimate
causes) should not be left behind.

If Professor Davidson, you, or any other economist can come up with a
workable plan towards this goal I would certainly be very enthusiastic
in endorsing it. However, strictly from a psychological standpoint, I
regrettably doubt that Professor Davidson's ideas would be any more of a
solution (worldwide) than Economic Socialism or Econmic Communism
(emphasis on Economic ONLY).

In conclusion, I would point out a story about a communist whom his
neighbors felt was not truly a believer in economic communism. The
authorites brought him in for questioning and asked him what he would do
if he had two houses. He said he would keep one and give the other to
the State. They then asked him if he had two pieces of land what he
would do with them. He replied he would keep one and give the other to
the State. They then asked him what he would do if he had two pairs of
pants. He replied "I would keep them both". The authorities were stunned
by this answer and asked his reasos for such an answer. He replied very
simply "Because I have two pais of pants".

I heartily commend Professor Davidson and others who are trying to find
a solution to making this world a better place for all but, human nature
being what it is, I do believe that individuals and countries would seek
debtor nation status and creditor nations would seek to become debtor
nations. With no criticism meant to Professor Davidson or others trying
to come up with a more equitable life for all, I sincerely believe that
peoples of all natios are motivated to achieve higher personal standards
of living for themselves if they are physically, mentally and
emotionally capable of working to do so.
