I find this interpretation of a Job Guarantee programme
to be a bit over the top. Certainly a job guarantee
program would eliminate the dole, but clearly for the
US with very little in the way of a dole and with an
aggressive attack on public support programmes over the
last thirty years, there would seem to be almost no
overlap between the Job Guarantee and the existing
available public support.
Certainly in Australia, where despite a determined
assault in recent years there is still a bit of a
safety net in place, a Job Guarantee would be a great
deal better than the dole. Since I view the current
dole as better than being sold into slavery if you
cannot find a job, I don't see how a Job Guarantee
can be tantamount to slavery.
