AFL-CIO Breakfast in Atlanta, ASSA Meetings, Saturday, January 5, 7am.

Bruce Raynor Will Speak at the AFL-CIO Breakfast on "The State of the
Labor Movement Since September 11."

The AFL-CIO will host a breakfast in Atlanta from 7:00 a.m. until 8
a.m. on Saturday morning, January 5 for ASSA attendees. Bruce Raynor,
President of the Union of Needletrades, Industrial and Textile Employees
(UNITE!) will be the featured speaker. His topic will be "The State of
the Labor Movement Since September 11."

Mr. Raynor became UNITE's President on July 1, 2001 after serving as
its
secretary-treasurer. Raynor is responsible for UNITE's innovative and
aggressive organizing program, having led the drive that added more
than
20,000 industrial laundry workers to the union's ranks in the last
two years. He has also led many national negotiations for UNITE,
including
negotiations with Westpoint-Stevens, Levi Strauss & Co., Liz Claiborne,
T.J.
Max/Marshall's, K-mart, and the Hartmarx Group. He directed the
decades-long organizing campaign at the Pillowtex
Fieldcrest-Cannon site in Kannapolis, North Carolina and, after the
company's 8,500 workers won union representation in 1999, Raynor led
the
negotiations for a first contract for them, setting a precedent for the
textile industry. As National Chair of the AFL-CIO's Task Force of
Elected Leaders, he has headed a committee of ten international union
officers devoted to promoting union organizing throughout the labor
movement.

All ASSA participants are invited to the breakfast, which will be held
in the International South Room at the Hyatt Regency, the IRRA
headquarters hotel.
