Re: "War" or "Crime" and does it matter?
John Gelles:
Why is it that you feel that Senior Citizens (with sufficient air cover)
should be sent to Afghanastan to fight a so-called "war on terrorism"?
Why is it that your posts often reflect the attitude that the "war on
poverty" means a war for the sake of retired college professors who are
on a pension, receive Social Security benefits, and own their own houses
"mortgage free" is really poverty?
Aren't you aware that Afghanastan has already been "bombed back to the
stone age" because of it's wars with Russia and it's internal policies
over the last decade or more?
Aren't you aware that Afghanastan is a decimated country with lots of
barren desserts and mountains that are filled with hundreds of caves
where civilians and terrorists alike can hide and be safe from attack by
"smart bombs" and ground froces?
Aren't you aware that ground troops, no matter how young or old, would
be sent to massive death due to the Afghan terrain? If you are not,
check the history of Russian attempts to conquer Afghanatan.
Are you aware that countless millions of people in the U. S. are living
at or below the poverty level? What is your answer to the plight of
these countless millions of U. S. citizens?
Are you going to try and sell them on the idea that a retired professor
who is receiving a pension, Social Security and a house that is mortgage
free is the REAL type of person that a "war on poverty" should address?
I really believe it's time for you to "get real" John and stop trying to
"hide from the reality of life as it REALLY is".
Most certainly Osama Bin Laden is responsible in part, or entirely, for
the real tragedy's on American soil. But why are most of the Islamic
countries condemning Bin Laden and trying to distance themselves from
him?. Surely, if ALL Islamic countries and groups embraced Bin Laden's
ideas, then this would be a time of great rejoicing in Islam because the
mighty USA had been proven vulnerable. The condemnation of a great deal
of the Islamic world, rather than their rejoicing, should be fairly
conclusive that the barbariism is NOT endorsed by the Koran or the
majority of the Islamic world.
