There has been stuff written on the social psychology of new currencies,
specifically with regard to lower nominal denomination. The German rentenmark
was an example. Lowe wrote on this in the early pages of his Economics and
Sociology (1935). He was involved in the implementation of the new currency in
response to the hyperinflation.
