Re: "GOVLOT", $100,000,000 Get Out the Vote Lottery
Henry Liu writes:
"Perhaps more people will vote [not only if
lured to the polls by a lottery] but if they are
presented with real choices."
Henry, the choice of Gore, Bush, Nader,
Buchanan and more than a huindred others on
the ballot are quite enough.
The problem is not with the outcomes of
elections. It is with the outcomes of RE-
ELECTIONS.
When every incumbent white official knew
that RE-election required black voters, they
changed the laws to increase democratic
outcomes. They got the message to stop
needlessly screwing people who used to not
be able to vote.
The same will happen if we once get close to
100% voting. Re-election will require
prosperity. Keynes told politicians how to
regain prosperity if they once lose it. They will
heed his advice -- enhanced by technology --
and we may expect to see a successful lifting
of the minimum standard of living.
Admittedly, genius will still be required in
government to succeed in diplomacy, domestic
governance, etc. We will not have a less
demanding set of tasks for all to do. We will
just put an end to the useless hurt of poor
people. No one will be poor.
But many will be nuts, sick, evil and
looking for trouble. And they will find it.
Some of them will be us.
