Paul,
You piece in the Guardian is the clearest statement of Keynesian

their applicability to current conditions I have come across in print for a
long time. It would be a service to the "possibilities of civilization"
if you
would go furhter to outline speicific programs for international institutions
such as the IMF and the WB and for the national governments of the G7, as well
as China, Russia and India. Perhaps a new Bretton Woods Conference?

Thanks Henry! I tried to promote a new Bretton Woods conference when I
was invited to a private meeting of the G24 nations' finance ministers
in Geneva in January 1999. Unfortunately, the crisis receded too quickly
and the conventional wisdom of the "Washington consensus" took over. Only
if the US economy gets in trouble-- eg if the dollar should suddenly
weaken, the market crash, etc. will someone take the need for a new
BrettonWoods type conference seriously.
But I don't want that to happen just so I can get a hearing in the
corridors of power.
