The ergodic world of business data analysis
Charley Rose interviewed the CEO of Microstrategies,
an 11 billion dollar company. He is 34 years old and
owns 52 percent of the firms stock.
He presently "mines" business data stored in "warehouses"
that allows higher profits based on predicted future data
patterns.
Ergodic he sees the world, based on the force of habit.
Non-ergodic the world is -- sporadically -- and his
systems respond rapidly to failure of its predictions to
accurately foretell the future.
Rapid response to failure, can allow statistical predictive
tools to imporve profits in business.
Macroeconomics can similarly apply past pattern analysis
up to the point of failure. It must then try to rework its
predictions. It may take a while for this to happen after
a great earthquake. But, other changes may take place
overnight -- as systems adapt to new conditions.
The CEO above sees the next big thing as "information
that finds you -- an improvement over your going after
it."
He calls it the "wireless" successor to the WW WEB.
You will be wired for a computer agent to reach you and
tell you all you need to know, based on "what's happening",
baby.
