The great argument Milton Friedman advances against
a Krugman Keynesian approach to government led
spending -- to resuscitate a depressed economy, (one
that is downsizing jobs and spending to maximize its
cash and very liquid risk-free holdings,) is -- that law,
politics and government are not capable of honest
plans and programs aimed at economic growth.
An illustration of how things work in any legislature
is on display in the impeachment of the US President
for reasons that relate solely to a grab for power and
money (by uniting emotional constituencies). This is
what his enemies hope to do.
And his friends are not that different when it comes
to any reform agenda with nothing special in it for
them.
The legislatures of the world behave in a very similar
manner in every deliberation they undertake. Only in
a war, when executive power is greatly enhanced, is
it possible to harness democratic law and politics for
the common good. And even then, tyranny and
madness may rule executive dreams and actions.
If I admit the truth of the above, I see the great barrier
to the Individual Estate Account, the Buffer Stock
Employment program, Soft Currency Economics, Eisner
Vickery views of money contra Friedman, Social Credit,
People's Capitalism, Economics for a Civilized Society,
solving the crisis in American (and world wide) pay,
Krugman's cure for economic hangovers, etc.
