The Vickrey article

The Vickrey article first appeared in Ordfront Magasin, a cultural
magazine in which I (until recently) was a regular writer. I worked
out the translation of the Vickrey piece with Hans O. Sjöström, who
is a good professional translator but not so shrewd when it comes
to economics terminology.

Somehow, the editor of Ordfront managed to persuade (by hook or
by crook, I wouldn't know) the editor of LO-tidningen, which is an
internal news bulletin for LO, the Swedish trade union congress, to
publish the article. To our disappointment, it turned out to yield
nought in terms of public response or debate.

Some journalist, employed at LO-tidningen, I believe, picked up a
few biographical data and some of the circulating Vickrey anecdotes
to frame the piece. Most of that stuff came from what had already
been published in Ordfront and in other media at the time of the
Nobel Award announcement.
