posting Davidson to PKT
I still contend that it is criminal that someone so influential
in developing a school of thought has no materials posted to the
website which he was influential in creating. I have called around.
Here is what I am prepared to do.
1. The interactive media site at SUNY has hardware and software
for scanning materials. To avoid black edges (as with photocopies)
it is best to have photocopies to work from.
2. The interactive media person at SUNY has offered to give
me a two-hour tutorial on scanning including into .html format.
I am willing to take the tutorial and do the gruntwork of the
scanning.
3. I think that for starters we should limit the project to
FIVE to TEN articles, including the ones recently mentioned by
Paul. Ric Holt should contact me and I will discuss with him
the preferred scanning technique (probably after my tutorial).
This breaks down the "prhobitive costs" of posting some
Davidson to PKT to the following:
1. Davidson must photocopy some materials and send them
to Nowell.
2. Nowell must take a tutorial scanning course and then
do the scaning.
3. Holt must post the materials.
4. Someone, presumably csf.colorado.edu, must bear the
cost of keeping the materials posted.
May I also point out that a number of people on pkt also
maintain their own websites and that if csf.colorado.edu
can't take on two much of the Davidson opus it can put in
a link to the proposed Davidson website. Surely someone
who constantly references his own opus would bear the
tax deductible $50 to $100 a month to keep professional
quality materials available to the public, and with
some research perhaps a full professor might even be
able to persuade a dean to cough up such a sum (or apply
for it at various sources) to try this idea out.
For my part I will volunteer my share of the gruntwork
up to and including teh first 25 articles at which point
I would want to re-evaluate my commitment to the remaining
100.
But all that aside, I still think we can go forward
with the first 5 to ten articles, just to put our toes
in the water.
