Unfortunately, this is the attitude of so many academics today. For
those on the list who are not currently part of the college scene, you
should not be surprised to find either of the following:

1) professors are generally the most unkempt and slovenly attired
individuals on campus, and

2) they are the first to resort to name calling and censorship when ever
opinion strays from what they deem to be "correct speech".

It is also unfortunate that these professorial habits, once reserved
only for friends and colleagues, have now been carried into the
classroom and are adversely impacting on students. If you think this is
an overstatement, just try reading the reviews from students about the
inability of teachers to handle course material or the complaints about
teachers who either won't take questions or can only give vague and
inadequate answers.

So, I am not surprised at the name calling or the elitist attitude of
some on the list. Nor, am I surprised to find they are connected with
some institute of higher learning. Maybe, others should try doing what
so many of today's students do, IGNORE them.
