I was just looking at the IMF's IFS of Feb/97: Since 1991the official
exchange rate is stuck at 1.42/1.43. However the CPI grew from 272 to 406.
In other words, the domestic dollar price of goods has risen during that
period. This is, of course, a crude meassure and explains only partially the
huge increase in GDP shown by the WB report. I am sure Laura has more detail
info about this
