Re: finite world/resource depletion
Two significant items in today's paper.
1) "Beef scare recalls 'The Jungle' novel of nine decades ago." The
recall of suspect beef this summer because of fears of E.coli
contamination brings to mind Upton Sinclair's 1907 novel, "The Jungle"
which incuded the sickening description of Chicago's utterly filthy meat
packing plants.
2) "As glaciers melt and water levels rise due to the warming influence
of the disappearing protective ozone layers because of hydrocarbon
pollution from burning petroleum products, these delicate slivers of
land in places such as the Marshall Islands are under theat of
disappearing." Has anyone calculated how much land will remain above
water when the glaciers are totally gone?
