manner (I hope you're not offended by the gender allusion of that phrase),
they will be offended and hurt.

Subject to some reply that Isaac made that I'm not aware of, I don't recall
him responding in anything but a gentlemanly manner, even though I totally
disagree with his position which I think is tantamount to treason against
the welfare of the human race.

I wasn't speaking only about children who feel "outraged," who are already damaged
so severely that they will need professional counseling.  I'm speaking about
children who, without prior experience, are good naturedly testing the limits
of behavior to learn what they ought to do and what not to do.  My example
of raising a foot so that the child's shin strikes by toe is to be performed
good naturedly without intent of causing harm, but merely to impart an
experience whose degree of pleasantness will serve to educate.  Anything more
than that is too prevalent today from people who have not had such training and
is the rationale for child abuse, or abuse of anyone else.  Examples of such
failure to train properly may be realized by the statement of a police chief
after some murders perpetrated by teenagers, "These kids feel that they won't
live long anyway, so that taking anyone else's life is of no concern to them."

You may not be aware of how some people who have never had such training
grow up, no matter their intellectual level and training, ready to come forth
with the vilest epithets they can think of on hearing anything presented calmly
that is the antithesis of their learning.  I think it is effective to respond
to them in kind so that they can get a feel for it.  I've had some experiences
with such people in other forums, wherein one, calling himself Dr. So and so, for
example, made this sole initial response, "You are an idiot."  In due time after
effectively countering every one of his arguments, the rancor diminished
accordingly to where we were holding a civilized exchange.
