The controversy between Kotlikoff & Summers and Modigliani has been
the object of a debate in the *Journal of Economic Perpectives*; here
are the main articles :

F. Modigliani (1988), "The role of intergenerational transfers and life
cycle saving in the acumulation of wealth", vol. 2(2), pp. 15-40.

L.J. Kotlikoff (1988), "Intergenerational transfers and saving", vol.
2(2), pp. 41-58.

D. Kessler & A. Masson (1989), "Bequest and wealth accumulation : are
some pieces of the puzzle missing ?", vol. 3(3), pp. 141-152.

The same authors and others (such as Blinder) have contributed to the
book by D. Kessler & A. Masson (Eds.) (1988), *Modelling the
Accumulation and Distribution of Wealth*, Oxford, Clarendon
Press.

Another recent book on inheritance is by T. Tachibanaki (Ed.) (1994),
*Savings and Bequests*, Ann Arbor, Michigan University Press.

Those who read French should consult the excellent specialissue of
the French review *Economie et Prevsion* : n 100-101, 1991.

I hope this is useful.
