The difference between Hayek and Mises, like the difference
between Hayek and Keynes, is essentially a difference in the way
these folks look at the problem or task to be addressed in
economics, and the strategy for answering that problem, the strategy
for providing explanations. It's fundamentaly a scientific
difference. And that is was the 'fights' fundamentally are about --
science. These fights are only charged by the passions of
politics -- but one can have any politics one likes and hold onto
these rival scientific pictures of the problems and explanatory strategies
in economics. These you get non-scientists like Doug and Rockwell
who identify political positions with scientific personalities -- which
is just a category mistake.
