Re: This year's model
Olson is a possibility but the Buchanan award may have preempted. I
have characterized that choice as a random lightning strike on either
side of the Potomac. I hope Mancur does win since he is clearly on par
with North and Buchanan among recent winners.
Schelling is a possibility and a nice gesture would be Olson-Schelling
since the latter supervised the former's dissertation and both are now
at U Md. I say "supervised" but only in the sense that TS was the only
Harvard faculty member willing to sponsor Mancur's dissertation draft,
done while he was at the Air Force Academy.
Baumol would be remote but not undeserved.
One cannot rule out Galbraith but there would be a need to find one key
idea that influenced the profession and I don't know what that is.
Hirschman would be a fine choice. A remote possibility and a personal
favorite might be Charles Kindleberger.
Sen might be somewhere back in the line. Has Akerlof done enough versus
Alchian?
