re: open forum
I too was becoming overwhelmed by the deluge of PKT mail until I signed up to
the mail digest format. Now I "only" get 3-5 long messages on a busy PKT day.
A lot of scrolling but a more efficient receiving system. It may also help
people reflect before immediately shooting off a post. Like others I don't
have the luxury of a large dept., grad students, or frequent departmental
seminars thus I appreciate the varying, lively discussions on PKT as another
way of keeping in touch with the big, wide world out there. It would be nice
to hear more about policy and comparative experiences outside the U.S. though.
I'm not in favor of a 1 msg per day quota, though I could then really crank
up my postings to meet the quota :) (And no one really wants that). Periodic
appeals to self-restraint and politeness should be exhausted first.
My compliments to Ric, seminar presenters, and the rest of you out there who
think it worth the effort to keep PKT going. Makes you wonder what we ever
did before PKT was around :)
How about a Lurkers' Week when all the regulars foreswear from initiating
posts?
