Jim,

An interesting question.  By coincidence, I met a post-doc student at
Harvard a few months back, and we were discussing this exact
question.  He gave me a reference of a physchologist who studied
consumer behaviour from the point of view of psychology.

Give me a few days and I will try to get the reference.
