Call for Papers

The 5th AUTUMN ACADEMY will be held at Friedrich-Schiller-University in
Jena, Germany, September 25 to 27. The motto of this year's autumn academy
is

"Self-Organization in Psychology and the Social Sciences".

The autumn academies are a series of symposia started in 1990 by Ewald
Johannes Brunner, Guenter Schiepek and myself, in close collaboration with
Hermann Haken, founder of synergetics. The idea is to have small (50-100
partizipants) and rather informal meetings which may help propagate the
application of nonlinear dynamics and synergetics in psychology. The other
central intention is to proceed to empirical approaches rapidly; dynamical
metaphors must be used in order to arrive at operationalizations of
dynamical concepts.

We started with a focus on clinical psychology and psychiatry; but also
topics from diverse sub / neighbor disciplines of psychology have been
presented at the recent symposia in Bamberg, Bern and Muenster. An
impression of our group may be obtained from a volume published in English
by Springer-Verlag, Berlin..., in 1992: W. Tschacher, G. Schiepek, E.J.
Brunner (eds). Self-Organization and Clinical Psychology (Empirical
Approaches to Synergetics in Psychology).

This years autumn academy will have an emphasis on the application of
synergetics, dynamics, chaos theory etc. on social processes (e.g. groups
and organizations). Papers addressing other domains of Psychology and
Psychiatry are also welcome.

The language of the symposium is German, but presentations may be given in
English. Partizipation is free (imagine that!). Registrations and requests
