For several years, IIM Ahmedabad has been rated as the `top' management
school in India by some Business Magazines. IIMA offers Masters and Doctoral
level programmes. The faculty undertakes individual and group research,
participate in management development programmes and get involved in
consulting assignments.
Qualifications:
A Ph.D. in Business Administration/Management, Social Sciences, Engineering
or any allied discipline is a necessary requirement. Post-doctoral
experience in teaching/research and a record of publications in refereed
journals will be added qualifications.
Benefits
In addition to the salary (which is currently comparable with senior
appointments in Government of India), faculty are allowed the privilege
of consulting, income from which is shared between faculty and the
Institute. IIMA has a green campus spread over 65 acres. The campus was
designed by Louis Kahn an internationally known American architect. New
faculty can expect to stay on campus houses soon after they join. Rent
is highly subsidised.
Teaching loads at the Institute are light in comparison to most schools
in North America. Faculty research is actively supported through well
qualified full-time research assistants, funding for travel in India and
very good computing and library facilities. Many members of the IIMA
faculty get opportunities to be associated with important committees of
the Government and become members of corporate boards.

GENERAL INFORMATION
Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad was set up by the
Government of India in 1961 to professionalise the management of the
Indian corporate sector, government and public sector through an active
program of education, training, consulting and research. In its initial
years it had an active academic collaboration with Harvard Business
School. Several senior HBS faculty taught at IIM Ahmedabad and some of
the IIMA faculty taught at the HBS. Currently IIM Ahmedabad has a faculty
strength of eighty. Nearly half of the faculty hold doctorate degrees from
prestigious North American schools. Others hold doctorate degrees from
schools in Europe and IIM's and universities in India.
The two-year graduate study programme graduates about 200 students every
year who are selected from nearly 25,000 applicants from various
disciplines. Thirty percent of the class has some work experience. The
alumni of the institute are currently working in key managerial positions in
multinationals and large and medium Indian companies. About 10% of the
alumni are working in other countries and a significant number are teaching
in US schools after their doctoral studies.
The institute has a well equipped library with over 100,000 books and a
large number of journals. It has a fully equipped management development
centre with residential accomodation for 120 participants. Its campus
is spread over 70 acres in Ahmedabad which is the sixth largest city in
India. It has state of the art computing resources consisting of UNIX
machines, 250 PCs connected in several Local Network which are linked to
each other. A multi-media lab with Apple Macs is being set up. IIMA is
linked to Education and Research Net in India and to INTERNET.
