You must vote AGAINST the Balanced Budget Amendment!
Do NOT PROFANE the greatest document in the history of
government with mindless financial Russian Roulette.
Senator Simon says it is a matter of one generation
against another: Will not the interest paid on federal debt
always be paid to living people of the future generation and
not to the dead people of the past?
Senator Simon says the danger is monetization of the
debt, in whole or in part. Do we not PAY future interest
with MONEY? Is not the money used for interest payments
by definition partial monetization -- if not of the debt,
then of its carrying charge?
Is not the real problem, INFLATION -- and how to
PREVENT it ? (And the potential problem, deflation -- and how
to prevent it ?)
How will Senator Simon fight inflation if we have no
money to motivate work and production?
If we need to reduce expenses in an operating budget is
not the solution to the problem a TWO BUDGET one:
Establish a CAPITAL BUDGET for investments and
growth.
Establish a balanced operating budget for ordinary
operations.
Neither of these require TAMPERING with the
Constitution.
What mischief motivates grown men to risk so much for
so little? If Congress ties its own hands, possibly the
states will refuse to go along:
If the sates do go along, and all governments' hands are
tied, only CHAOS can result when we need more money and government
claims they haven't go it -- or worse, a minority in government
denies the MAJORITY its own money.
I am shocked at what seems to be going on in the Senate
of the United States. You have, most of you, gone mad.
Signed: John Gelles
