The classifications analyst vs. activist, scientist vs. moralist and to a
lesser extent liberal vs. conservative are false dichtomies which obscure
the real issues of dealing with issues within context.  Adopting some
universal rule or attitude may make life easier and psychologically
comfortable, but it does not solve problems in the long run.  For exmple,
I am an analytic activist who believes that morality is part science and
science is part morality.  As for liberal and conservative, history would
seem proof that niether perspective is adequate to deal with the a
complex reality.
