Hamilton and Hayek
Dear Greg
You remind me, with your description of Hayekian principles,
of how I felt on reading a very good essay on Hamilton:
I found that I was a Hamiltonian. I am probably a Hayekian
as well.
I hope, one day, you will see that to free the individual
from having to suck up to Congress, we have to wrest control
of work and money from Congress and the Fed and return it
to the individual by way of recognition that the right to
life, liberty and the pursuit of virtue means microloans,
carrying a debit balance on the books of the IRS -- what
ought to be the people's bank.
You and I have a problem -- you do not explain why people
can remain out of work when it is their public money that
is being used by politicians to maintain unemployment.
You seem to think that if such people tried harder the
money to bring back jobs and trade to places of high
unemployment would materialize automatically. Hamilton
knew and I know only a federal bank for growth and full
and employment can make that money appear.
Whenever I get this far down in a message to you I realize
that others on the LIST need the same advice. And so
I go public with my private mail to you. I hope you
forgive for me for it.
Best John
