I know that trying to destabilize an economy of an enemy by dumping
phony money on them has a long history.  Some time ago I remember
that they found the plates for fake British Pounds in (what I believe
to be) a German lake.  During WWII the plan was to print pounds and
try to inflate the British economy.  Also a year or several ago, the
New York Post had a big headline on plans by Iran, or some middle
eastern nation, to print US$.  A believe the story of the pounds was
from an episode of NOVA on counterfeiting currency.
