RE: FCC Charge for home Modems

this is a long standing internet myth. People using regular analog phone
lines for standard modem service face no additional charges.

Those users converting to the new phone system know as ISDN (I Smell Dollars
Now) will pay more because they will get much more than they currently
receive in phone service. One ISDN line can carry multiple communications
channels simultaneously. Using ISDN, one line can simultaneously handle
voice, fax, and modem communications streams. New service, new fee
structure, no conspiracy.... How does this relate to post-keynesian
thought?

The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) is quietly working on a new
regulation that will directly affect you if you or a household member are
users of computer modems. The regulation being developed will require
individual users of modems to pay an extra charge for the use of the public
telephone network which carry their data.
In addition, computer networks (such as CompuServ, Tymnet, Telenet, etc)
will be charged as much as $6.00 per hour per user for access to the public
telephone network. These charges will very likely be passed on to the
subscribers. The money is to be collected and given to the telephone
companies in an effort to raise funds lost to de-regulation.

Here's what you can do if you are concerned:

    1. Pass this information on to others.

    2. Send a letter to the Chairman of the FCC, Chairman of the Senate
Communication Subcommittee, and Chairman of the House Tele-
        communications Subcommittee.

    3. Also e-mail the President at (president@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx) or
        e-mail the Vice-President at (vicepresident@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx)
