But...is the citizen military forces the army etc.?  What value to the
political economy does the individual valour and sacrifice of the army
contribute?

How is having a brave army provide the foundation for democratic government?
Might is right - is that it? The only contributions i can think of  are helping
disaster relief efforts (hardly an example of individual valour etc) and being
part of an institution that receives massive doses of government spending.

I wonder if the people in Granada or Iraq or Vietnam thought much of the
democratic foundations of the US army.
