"redefining progress"

Does anyone know anything about an organization named "Redefining
Progress"? They advocate replacing GNP/GDP measures of economic
success with measures such as what they call the "Genuine Progress
Indicator" which subtracts environmental costs, adjusts for increasing
inequality, etc. It seems a good idea, but how good is their work,
technically speaking? Their chair is Richard Norgaard of UC Berkeley
Dept. of Energy & Resources and Robert Heilbroner and Herbert Simon
(among others) have endorsed this project.

BTW, while per capita GDP has risen since 1970, per capita GPI has
fallen.

sincerely,
