NYT and pkt seminar
The New York Times in its editorial on free trade made the following
insightful comment today: "Employment in the U.S. is primarily determine
by the Federal Reserve Board's efforts to push the economy as close to
full employment as possible." I wish someone at the NYT would inform the
Fed of this responsibility. :-)
On a more important issue, Jim Devine has just put up a working paper
titled "A Reconstruction of Marx's Theory of Captialist Exploitation."
I suggested to him that we might use this paper for our next pkt seminar.
All the feedback I received from the last pkt seminar was very positive
and again I want to thank Jamie Galbraith for his efforts. The question
though is when we should have the next seminar. I would like to give us
at least ten days to read the paper, maybe two weeks. And then have a
week to discuss it. Since this is the end of the term for many people
and the holidays are coming up I'm wondering if we should wait until
January. Also Claudio Sardoni has put up an interesting paper on Marx
and Keynes, so it might be interesting to discuss both papers at the
same time. If Claudio and Jim are willing. So, should we have a pkt
seminar this month or wait until after the AEA meetings?
