Dear Feminist, Post Keynesian & Progressive Economists:
A job opportunity open. Brief details are as follows:
Place: Department of Economics, Curtin University of Tech,
Perth, Western Australia.
Job: Tenurable Lecturer in Economics (technically tenurable -
permanent - after three years; but this can be fastened
up, and noone I know has ever missed out on tenure if
it is a tenurable job)
Teaching: (1) one or two large core undergraduate quantitative
subjects (econometrics and/or math econs);
(2) another subject like labor, international, macro,
micro, public, history of econ thought.
There is scope for teaching development: eg, I have started five
new units in the past three units.
Qualifications: hold or nearly holding a PhD in economics
Pay: $41,574-$49,370 Australian (Plus salary supplementation)
How to Apply: Send letter of application, any publications/papers,
and names/addresses/fax/email numbers of 3 referees
by the 13 January 1995. (Ref number: 1882). However,
I would apply ASAP as I might be informally interviewing
some of the candidates at the ASSA conference in early
January 1995.
Details: Inquiries: contact Ian Kerr, email: Kerr@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
(fax: +61-9-351-3026; Tel: +61-9-351-7722)
Applications quoting reference number [Ref 1882], and
including the names and contacts of three referees should be
submitted to the
Administrative Officer
School of Economics and Finance
GPO Box U1987
Curtin University of Technology
Perth. Western Australia 6001. (reverse lines 3 & 4)
by 13 Jan 1995 - but preferably earlier!
Airfares and removal expenses for family will be provided.
Perth is one of the most beautiful cities in Australia, especially if
like open spaces, swimming, bush walking, camping close by; it has
a bit of "culture" and excellent library facilities at Curtin and the
other universities. Most of us receive about $4,500 for conference and
book purchases a year; plus there are many opportunities for applying
for $7,000 - $20,000 for research. We also get other research monies
for publications and conference presentation etc (possibly $2,000 per
year for a couple of each).
Good luck, Phil O'Hara, Econ, Curtin Uni: email noharapa@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
PS: Lecturer is similar to Assistant professor. But I think the tenure
conditions are better here than in the USA. Long service leave after
7 years; 6 months outside study leave every three years.
