re: J. Robinson quote
Brent is correct. The statment (RE: consistency) is from Emerson.
"A foolish consistency is the hobgoblin of little minds, adored by
little statesmen and philosophers and divines. With consistency a
great soul has simply nothing to do."
Another of my favorites here comes from Bernard Berenson (1865-1959),
American art critic.
"Consistency requires you to be as ignorant today as you were a year
ago."
I have the full citation to the Robinson quote somewhere in my files
but can't find it. I WILL keep looking for it.
On the issue of quotations in general, I love the following from
Dorothy Sayers.
"I always have a quotation for everything--it saves me from thinking."
Yes, I AM aware of the irony associated with quoting the above. (So who
does shave the barber?)
