Re: Joan Robinson
Bill Mitchell writes:
>So her disrespect for marx makes her in my view a minor left figure. I place
her in that strange bourgeoise Cambridge (UK) keynesian tradition. she
also did
not fully go for Kalecki who in my view was everything Keynes would have
dreamed of being in terms of developing a rich analysis of the capitalist
system. then Kalecki was trained as a marxist in poland so that probably
explains her diffidence to him.>
Everyone is of course entitled to opinions and impressions, but what
about evidence? The evidence is:
1) she praised Kalecki's work and took upon her the task of "playing the
trumphet for him" since their first encounter in 1936
2) she tried to convince Keynes (unsuccesfully) to understand Kalecki's
points
3) she repeatedly claimed that Kalecki's rather Keynes's version of the
theory of effective demand was more apt to be employed in post keynesian
economics.
4) Final anedoct: she once wrote that Sraffa teased her because she
treated Marx as a little-known forerunner of Kalecki.
