Re:Republican Congress Policies
It was depressing to see my party more or less destroyed on Tuesday
but I feel that it was necessary for the Democrats to be "downsized."
Hopefully, in the long run this election will make the Democrats
stronger (its hard to see how they can become weaker). There
probably is going to be some type of tax cut plan and a lot of the
remaining Democrats and Clinton are probably going to go along with
it. The Republicans did want more money going into defense, but the
fact is that there is just not a big movement for increased defense
spending (in the early 80's many were worried about the cold war) so
that part of the contract will probably be sacrificed in the search
for ways to pay for the tax cuts.
Does anyone else share my feeling that this election will slow down
or even stop the term limits movement? The key point of the movement
was that it was impossible to remove incumbents, but Tuesday seems to
have disproved that. Anyway, I suspect that term limits are the
first promise that the Republicans will break.
