Well, here in "America's Third World City," it's hardly novel.
We -- the whole US, not just LA -- are undergoing a world-wide
equalization, primarily downward, of wages, working conditions,
standards of environmental cleanliness, standards of democracy, etc.
all induced by increased capital mobility. On some matters, such
as environmental issues, we haven't seen much of the future trend
yet. But it's happening. I wouldn't be that surprised if we
see a military coup in the US 20 or 30 years from now. (What
a great way to enliven my golden years! :-) )

sincerely,
